I think only Will is going to appreciate this, but I'm just got my spring schedule and I'm going to be taking admiralty law next semester. So, Will, I'm afraid that after your suggestion I will spend the entire semester saying "admiral?" under my breath. And it will be all your fault.
On another note, damn, I'm sick of school. Law school has changed me in many ways - dampening my appreciation for the simple beauty and charm of exposed brick and wood panelling is only one. Perhaps more fundamental, is that I never ever want to get another graduate degree in anything, ever. I took my last exam today - I think this semester has beaten out of me the last ounce of desire for graduate education.

Wood Panelling and Exposed Brick
Reed, have you ever been to the Charleston, SC, airport? I think you'd find it quite tasteful. Lots of exposed brick and wood. Might be a good candidate for a "Bare Carpet Club" franchise, although it is not a particularly large or busy airport.

I know it's somewhat last minute, but would anybody be up for the previously discussed but never acted upon trip to Vegas the weekend of Dec. 16-18 (or pretty much anytime between December 13-21st)?

Merry Christmas Baby I don't want to fight tonight
Any good Xmas ideas? Laura was asking me for things I wanted, and I couldn't really come up with anything. Any of you asking Santa for something cool. I don't think he can deliver a Bengals Super Bowl or a Georgetown national championship.

The Noble Single
It occurred to me that someone should really post Reed's greatest literary accomplishment to the blog...for posterity and all. So without further ado:
The Noble Single
As I consider the daily challenges one faces, I must conclude that by far the honorable is the preservation of the single. Everywhere, register jockeys and store clerks yearn to part me from my hard earned singles. "Sir, do you have anything smaller than a $20?" they cry.
No, no, a thousand times no! The $1 bill cannot be squandered on lunch, frittered away for metro fare, or fed thoughtlessly into vending machines! The single is not simply a piece of paper worth one dollar. Even the wise and warm gazes of Washington and that one-eyed pyramid seem to say, "Am I not worth more than a buck?"
Alone among currency denominations, the single has a truely exalted purpose: a higher calling and an exceptional significance. Treasure and guard the single, for it is the noblest of bills.

Who's the F'ing Genius
That scheduled Georgetown's home opener for the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend?
If anyone's going to be in DC that weekend (Reed?) and would like two tickets to the Vandy game, let me know.

A Couple of Things
1) Bill, thanks for the Reel Big Fish album. Having listened to it, I'm not sure this one has the same potential to be played at every Georgetown keg party. But you never know I guess.
2) I'm just feeling nostalgic: Good times, good times....
Edited by Bill, becuase Reed should really know how to make a link in HTML.

Someone else agrees!
According to a review of the new book called "Empire of Debt", by Bill Bonner and Addison Wiggin, the authors describe Woodrow Wilson as, "a self-satisfied, sanctimonious delusional bungler who practically single-handedly transformed the country into a mocking shell of what it was supposed to be." Perhaps they even go on to suggest that he needs a beating. But I think I need to buy this book. Anything so negative about #1 person on the list has to be good.

The Whitest Man Alive
So I was at the annual "Buffalo Nite" reception up on the Hill today and happened to run into the one and only Dave Boyd, along with his little sister. He yet again did not shake my hand, although in fairness to him, he did have an excuse, as he had a drink in one hand and a chicken wing in the other.
Not much to report from our crossing paths. His hair is noticeably greying (not as bad as reed, but definitely noticeable). He's got a place out in the wilds of virginia with the little woman. No little boyds yet (either dave is remarkably good at the rhythm method, or suzanne is not as catholic as dave initially asserted).
Eddy, dave wants you to e-mail him.

It tastes like butterscotch..... and fire
I went down to the Jersey shore for the weekend, and stopped at a large liquor store (Buy-rite liquors) to get some beer. To get to the beer, I walked past the rum aisle and saw...Stroh! So, of course, I bought a bottle. I haven't sampled any yet, but I smelled it, and it still smells just as angry as ever. And there's a new warning on the back not to carry it on airplanes. Mmmm, Stroh.

New York, New York (It's a hell of a town)
I have a new job - well, at least I will have a new job next September. I took an offer with Cleary Gottlieb, a fairly well-known international law firm here in New York. London was great, and the firm there was really nice. But staying in New York offers certain other attractions, which weigh very very heavily in it's favor. So one year from now, I begin the excitement of being a first year associate. It should be fun. The firm's offices are downtown (right next door to Century 21, if you're reading this Laura) - so I'm thinking about getting a place to live in Park Slope. All in all, I'm quite happy with the choice.
So yeah...me...New York...job...money...etc. That's really about it. Oh, and I didn't respond to the picture of Bacon, so just let me say "mmmm, Bacon"

Hoya Schedule
Saw this in the Hoya today. Was pleased to see we're playing Duke and really happy to get Syracuse at home this year, since I may not see the Orange otherwise.
But can someone explain this sentence to me?
"In the Hispanic Classic, Georgetown will travel to Oregon and tentatively compete against Stetson and Savannah State."
So we're going to Oregon to play a crappy team from Florida and a REALLY crappy team from Georgia? And it somehow benefits Hispanics? Is the University of Oregon involved at all?
And if we're going to be out there already, why not schedule the first leg of a home and home with Gonzaga?

The Real Manhattan Beach

So, lacking anything better to watch after the U.S. Open was over this evening, I noticed that the Real Cancun was on UPN. I hadn't watched this since Reed, Will and I watched it on the big screen at the Courthouse theaters a few years back, and it was just as crappy as I remember it. Anyway, just wanted an excuse to post a few unnecessary photos from the film.

Woodrow Wilson
As I was driving from Washington to New York yesterday, I needed to make a stop to get a bite to eat and relieve myself, so I pulled off the NJ Turnpike into one of the turnpike's many reststops, only to discover that I had inadvertently chosen the "Woodrow Wilson" reststop. You can imagine my horror. Both that I had chosen this reststop - and that New Jersey, which otherwise seems like a perfectly reasonable state, would name one of its reststops after a man so richly deserving a beating. But what could I do...the next one wasn't for 22 miles. I did kick the building for good measure, but it seemed to have no effect.
Also, the store inside didn't have the usual selection of overpriced crappy CD's. How will bands like Saxon earn their royalties now?
Finally, no Bill, I didn't stop in Baltimore on the way.

Herding Cats
The Vegas comments have gotten rather unwieldy and seemed to have tailed off. Not sure if we will ever be able to get everyone on the same page here, but I'd still like to do this if we can get a critical mass for at least one of the weekends.
So far this is what we've got:
AUg. 26-28: Will - Yes, Bill-Yes, Eddy-No, Reed-No, Alan-?
Sept. 2-4: Will- Yes, Bill-Yes, Eddy-?, Reed-No, Alan -No
Sept 9-11: Will - Yes, Bill-No, Eddy-?, Reed-?, Alan - Yes
As a final option, I will put forward Columbus day weekend (October 7-9), which at least tentatively should work for me.
Thoughts?

Vegas Baby Vegas
Since it sounds like the weekend is preferred, what dates are people thinking. I'm free the first two weekends, September 2-4, and 9-11. Any preference on those two (the first one is Labor Day weekend)? It seems like there are a bunch of places with reasonable ($170 or less) rates that weekend. Reed and Will have already commented on being in -- Alan, Eddy, Brad, Patrick, Ted???
She's got nice melons.

So the rumor I heard is true. Walking around the streets of Kyoto, I came across my first square watermelon. Apparently the Japanese came up with them because you can pack more of them in a shipping crate than round melons. Just about all the fruit here is imported and expensive, a bunch of grapes, $5, and apple $4. Some fruit is so expensive itユs gift wrapped and given as presents. Most cantaloupes here are about $20, but you can find the most perfect cantaloupe youユve ever seen going for $80 in a department store.

Speaking of Beltway Insider (carnal) knowledge

I meant to mention in my response to Will's post that I'm reading Washingtonienne by Jessica Cutler.
You may remember her from the major sex scandal she caused in beltway circles a year or so back. Althouth Ms. Cutler would like us to believe that this is a work of fiction, I'm fairly certain there is a lot of personal experience being displayed. Will, if I was you, I'd be down on the hill, playing up my Syracuse roots to any girls that will listen (Jess is an alum, as is her female protaganist). If these are the typical post-graduate activities of SU Journalism students (threesomes, coke binges, hooking up with multiple high elected officials), then it explains why people can take the snow for 4 years.
In other entertainment news, did anybody else notice that Cooter is urging a boycott of the Dukes of Hazard movie? I'm not sure what's funnier, that Cooter is trying to stop people from seeing a movie about something that basically made his career, or the fact that he was elected to congress.
Reality Check
Just curious -- outside of Washington, do people really care about things like this Karl Rove flap, or the Supreme Court nomination battle?
I fear I have become a Beltway Insider, albeit a horribly apathetic one. It's kind of the worst of both worlds...I feel obligated to pay attention to these things, but don't care enough about them to make the time I spend keeping abreast of them worthwhile.
On an unrelated note, anyone interested in Vegas, perhaps sometime in September? I feel the urge to do something self-destructive.

Doing the Wild Thing
Laura and I spent our Friday night Pete Rose style, at the racetrack. We headed over to Hollywood Park to play the ponies. I hit it big in the 6th race, when a 15-1 long shot placed, but more importantly than that, we went to see the last of the free summer concerts Hollywood Park puts on after the races, featuring Coolio and Tone-Loc.

There was much debate in advance as to who would open for whom. After all, can you imagine the indignity of having to play second fiddle to Coolio? Perhaps that fate is nearly as bad as being second to Mr. Loc (which was the order the proceedings went down on Friday). Regardless, both put on quite the fine show (I had totally forgotten that Coolio did Fantastic Voyage), and there was smell of pot was so thick that I was beginning to think even the horses were smoking up.

MOCKBA (axxxxxx)
Considering that last time I was in Moscow there was a terrorist attack here, I didn't really expect that coming here from London would lessen my chances of being blown up. But I guess it was a good week to go to Russia afterall.
It's cool to be back in Moscow. I don't have as much time for tourist stuff as the last time I was here, but I did get out this weekend to wander around the downtown area, Red Square, Arbat, etc. I bought a couple of matrioshkas and USSR t-shirts, in usual tourist fashion. The work here has been cool too, though. There are a couple of really interesting deals going on here right now. Being a lawyer here seems rather different from what I've seen in London so far.
Unfortunately I don't have any stories like Ted's story about dried sea-horse snacks. Most things here are potato or cabbage flavored. But I'm having a good time nontheless. I'm getting Russian lessons from the firm while I'm here too, which is cool. I think re-immersion in the language is definitely helping improve my Russian too. It's still fairly basic, I'm hoping I can keep up with some Russian lessons in the fall. Especially since I'll be a 3L, and not have as much to do.

Brandon Bowman Away Message
So, I was talking to Jeff Goldstein a few months back, and he noted that most of the current Hoya players had their IMs listed somewhere, and that he loved to check out the away messages. Anyway, in appreciation of his not going pro, here is what Brandon Bowman's (AOL IM: yngkly1) away message showed today:

Buck no more reports Carey
IM'ing from London (ahhhhhhh), Reed Carey reported that Buck, an alterego known to occasionally appear while drinking is no more. "I think Buck was also a product of rowing-angst working its way out," said a reflective Carey, "without that, Buck's life blood is gone." In another startling development, Carey reported, "I've been trying to cut down on the stare."
Carey didn't entirely rule out the possibility of a Buck reappearance, say if Comeau was with him and encouraging him with the phrase, "TOMBS...NOW!", but for the time being the small trees of London are safe.

Probably drank beer in a plastic cup
Once again I'm pleased to quote David Lowery, "Happy Birthday to me". Unlike some people that don't make it to at most 31, (and everybody that was born on the last day of February during a leap year), I have the pleasure of celebrating the only year in which my birthdate and age will coincide.

Muppet Guide
Bill/Will = Statler and Waldorf
Brad: Rowlf
Sahadi: Dr. Teeth
Alan: Swedish Chef (c'mon, Bill, you could have figured THAT one out)
Eddy/Dave: Kermit and Fozzie (or Ernie and Bert, if you go by the letters over their beds)
Yon: Sam the Blue Eagle
Adrian: Animal
Comeau: Judge Reinhold
Rod: Dr. Bunson Honeydew
Justin: Beaker
I think John Ngo might have been Rizzo the Rat.
I'm sure Reed must have had a muppet counterpart, but I can't think of who it would have been. Maybe the boomerang fish guy?

More news from Senior Ted
Ted's still having difficulty creating a blogger account, but in the meantime he sent this along to me for posting:
Hiya Bill,
I've been trying to set up a blogger account but it just isn't happening. Not sure if it's the old Mac I'm using, the Japanese instructions I'm trying to translate, or the Japanified blogger website. I guess just post this letter until I can figure it out. I didn't make it that long in london. I started to get itchy about having something worthwhile to do, and picking up the odd jobs that entail illegal work just wasn't cutting it. I called it quits and headed back to the family in St.Louis. My parents are selling their house, so I went home to pack up my stuff and haul it into storage, and give em a hand moving everything. I was home about 3 months when over the phone I landed a job here in Japan teaching English with the stipulation that I had to be in Hiroshima in 10 days. I said some quick goodbyes, got things in order, and arrived here in late May. Had a two week training period, then decided on taking a post in a town of 50,000 just outside of Hiroshima and moved out here last week. For the most part I'm an elementary school teacher at a couple different schools, teaching 1st to 6th graders. It's pretty fun work, just play a lot of games with em and then at recess I head out for some baseball or kickball. I do a couple evening
classes, adults, corporations, high schoolers, in all I only teach 22 hours a week which is sweet, but in the country side it takes forever to get places, so I'm on buses or trains about 10 hours a week. The plan is to be here about a year or so and save up as much as I can. Tentatively I'm hoping to backpack across Asia and through North Africa with the money I save, but a plan can change quite a bit in a year. So here's some odd things I've observed since being here.
- Some 7-11's sell dried seahorses as well as soup flavored pringles for snacks.
- All my elementary schools have a fleet of unicycles, which the kids use in gym class or recess.
- There's a surprising equivalent to a wet willy here called concho. A boy will clasp his two hands together in a fist, extend his index fingers, and proceed to run up to another boy and stick his fingers up the boys asshole. That's right. And it's only boy on boy, and sometimes the receiver will proceed to bend over and ask for more. One of the male english teachers got conchoed the other day, and I think it's
only a matter of time for my concho cherry to be unexpectedly popped, not something I'm looking forward to.
- Much like the bill murray commercial in lost in translation, i saw a commercial which just showed a bald bruce willis coolly taking off his sunglasses, then a shot of him standing next to two cars and all he says is Congratulations, wtf is
that.
- Similarly they have a thing for Jean Reno who has his own line of perfume here called "I love Jean Reno"
That's it for me, I'll try to give updates of weird Japanese shit when I encounter them. On other notes, Eddy, are you moving to St.Louis? Reed, I too am currently dating a girl named Emily. And a Creek reference, when I was in london, Joshua Jackson was starring in "A Life in Theater" with Patrick Stewart. The Captain reportedly had no idea who Josh was and completely upstaged Pacey.

Muppets take the Crapulence Meter
So Reed's girlfriend proved to be a blog killer -- so much so that not even Reed would comment on her. Anyway, I am hopeful the following will meet with more response. In an attempt to remain relevant movies.com has introduced a new movie review feature which I feel might be of interest to you all. FYI, movies.com is a combination of a number of different studios online efforts. Being a joint partnership in Hollywood basically means it is just window dressing that nobody actually wants to succeed, but I'm quite taken with their latest offering, Statler and Waldorf: From the Balcony. Anyway, this got me thinking; I recall Will and I being the aformentioned muppet duo, but who was everybody else? All I can recall at the moment was Yon being Sam the blue eagle, who were the rest of you?
In other Brad related news, Reed tipped me off to the fact that Chrissy Boyle (tho apparently she still goes by her maiden name) has a blog all her own (which even links to this one). Anyway, since Brad appears unable to operate a computer, if you're looking for an update on his live you may find it at her site. The site contains a rumor that Beggar's Ride had reunited (although it was sketchy on details). Either way, I am anxious to hear a follow up to the musical masterpiece Could I Fall (If). If nothing else, you can stop by to check out her review of my wedding, where she deems Eddy the greatest partier alive, albiet one that couldn't pronounce her name correctly.

Overstepping
So as to not let us fall into the old habits of ignoring the blog for a month, I thought I'd post again, even if the details should really be shared by Reed. So I was IMing with Mr. Carey early this week, and he shared with me that a) he was dating someone, and b) that person was living in Los Angeles. Anyway, since my internship starts monday I probably won't have the requisite time available to actually stalk anyone, so if any of you have any free time, here she is, her name is Emily (convenient for Reed, as that was also his last girlfriend's name), and she lawyers in Los Angeles:

Sorry I'm light on details. The picture fails to tell us if she has as hot an ass as Reed's brother's girlfriend from back in the day. Perhaps Reed can share more revealing information about their bi-continental romance.

Back in the Swing of Things
I'm not sure why posting dropped off so drastically, but I will try to get back in the habit.
I changed the format of the blog because I was kind of getting sick of the old one. The current formatting is intended to be interim until I think of something more appropriate to the level of crapulence that is our hallmark. Any ideas are welcome. Bill, I think you should have rights to change things on your own, soo feel free to. Anyone else who wants admin privileges, let me know.
My own personnel crapulence has been quite high lately, as Comeeau was in town over memorial day weekend, and last weekend I was in Cleveland for a bachelor party/wedding combination. Reed, Eddy, and Bill, if you ever make it to C-Town, I recommend Christie's in the Flats. (Note to Eddy -- Christie's is not affiliated with Brad's wife).
I assumed that Bowman going pro was just a lark so he could participate in pre-draft workouts and camps. Unless he's been performing drastically better than I would assume he's capable of, I have to think he will withdraw from the draft. But stranger things have happened.
Reed, how long are you in London for? I may come visit.

London (ahhhh London)
Bill is right - the level of crapulence has been disappointingly low for too long. I can only assume that the crapulence meter graphic was removed due to the almost total lack of crapulence. Having said that, this post isn't especially crapulent.
London has been outstanding so far; being a summer associate is all I thought it could be and more. For the summer I have a great flat in the Spitalfields area of London - which has actually gotten to be quite a nice neighbourhood. Britain in the summer is lovely, of course. And being back in Europe is, as usual, fantastic. I went down to Barcelona this weekend for a wedding, and I can say that the city is quite nice. (ahhhhh Barcelona?) I few more weekend trips around the continent are definitely in order, and I think I might get a few visits to the firm's other offices too - maybe even Frankfurt and Moscow, which would be really nice.
Bill, I'll see what I can do about Wimbledon. Maybe I could go through Maria Sharapova's garbage for you? But really, what kind of stuff would you want? Are you going to be sending us free Universal shit now? Because, I mean, if we don't get free random stuff, what good is knowing someone at a major music label. Congrats on the job, though. Eddy, I can't believe that you have already moved out of New York - who will I go to Score's with now?

Georgetown Recognition
Is it just me, or does the addition of the "M.D." make you feel a little ill. By the way Eddy, my youngest sister begins school at St. Louis U. in the fall. Let me know if you need some new undergrad friends, as I'm sure she'd be more than happy to hook you up.

What happened to this blog?
We've gone a solid month without a single post and thats just sad, so I feel the need to fill this personal publishing void:
1. Did somebody actively change the format of the page, or did blogger do that for us?
2. Brandon Bowman is going pro? - I have to hope he isn't serious, but it concerns me that he might be. In other news, Ray Reed and Cornelio are transferring, but I'm not sure anyone will notice.
3. Somewhat related to the topic of Cornelio, I got quite tied up playing the game of Cornhole over memorial day weekend in Cincinnati. If you haven't played (and I doubt you have since it's indiginous to Southwest Ohio apparently), I highly recommend checking it out. Try this online version brought to you by Cincinnati brewer Christian Moerlein.
4. Is Reed in London (ahhhhhh London)? If so, how 'bout sending me something from Wimbledon asshole.
5. I got a job for the summer - Universal Music Group's New Media division was the unluckly loser in my employment sweepstakes this summer. Ironically I'll be working for a woman who graduated with a Masters in Foriegn service from Georgetown. During the interview I commented on how she hadn't updated her address in the alumni database since she lived in Toronto. She replied she didn't want to keep getting bothered by the powers that be in the SFS because she was one of the few grads who went to legitimate employment (BCG followed by Universal) and wasn't just a lawyer or working for the government.

Speaking of Joey...
Katie Holmes is dating Tom Cruise???

Joining the Propertied Class
My apartment building is going condo, and today I put down a deposit to buy a two-bedroom later this summer for an ungodly amount of money (although somewhat less ungodly than some comparable places).
God I feel old.

A True Classic
The episode of Dawson's Creek with Joey and the mugger is truely some of the greatest television that has been or will be produced in our generation. It was on TBS this morning and, like the train wreck that it is, I could not look away. Joey's witty banter with her mugger was as entertaining as ever, yet the "sucking chest wound" was still just as surprisingly absent. The end was.... well.... still touching (I take it I don't need to describe it). Anyway, it has to be one of the best episodes of the Creek, if not the best. Yes, there was no Busy, no Duck Girl, no Pasty, no van der Beef - but what more does one need than Katie Holmes and a mugger singing in sweet harmony?
And speaking of that - my passion for pina coladas extends to making and drinking pina coladas, but serving them was never my passion. Bill, I'm afraid you're on your own with the glassware problem. Those big margarita glasses would probably be good.

A Game for Reed

I'm not much of a gamer myself, but check out this article about the soon to be released Medal of Honor, screenwritten by the same man involved in Apocalypse Now, Red Dawn and Conan the Barbarian! I didn't know Reed was their target market.

NIT Again
Although it's good to be in the postseason again, I'm more than a little disappointed that it's the three letter tourney and not the four. Will, as a former Boston resident, any dirt on the Terriers? How was Amsterdam by the way?

The Hoyas and Other Musings
Playing UConn really brings home how much the team has overacheived this year. We've got two players -- Green and Bowman -- that would get into the rotation there, and I don't think either would start.
For all the gnashing of teeth that is accompanying our late-season swoon, given the performance of the other bubble teams, I think we still sneak in with a win over Providence, barring a lot of upset winners in the conference tournaments. And I'm cautiously optimistic about the Providence game too -- they are terrible defensively and not especially explosive offensively...so we should be able to keep pace with them. I still have confidence in our ability to pull out the close ones...our main problem is we can't overcome large deficits because of our inability to generate points from our defense.
It's funny...the Hoyas are 5 points away from being 5-10 in conference, yet people are shocked that good teams like Nova and UConn blow us out when they play well.
On an unrelated note, I'm apparently off to Amsterdam this weekend, and will be there through March 16. Anyone ever been there? Anyone know a sports bar there that would carry the Big East tournament?

Mr. Unintelligible
Laura and I went to a game watch event in Hermosa Beach this morning to watch Georgetown play yet another flat liftoff half, and not have enough to make a comeback in the vesper half. I'm sure Will and Alan did likewise, so even with the parents of Brandon Bowman and Ashanti Cook in attendance, this is hardly postworthy.
However, what is postworthy is that when I went to the bar to order breakfast (why havent't they eliminated the noon tipoffs with hockey not playing???) and ran into none other than Jeremy Janicki. While I couldn't understand most of what he said, I managed to translate that he still worked for Exxon Mobil, who was generous to move him here a few months back. He lives in Hermosa Beach, is working on taking the GMAT, and appears to have added a few pounds of beer to his face. As for his former associate, Dan Baker (aka Dan/Stan, aka John Daniel Stanislowski) is living in Baltimore with his girlfriend.

John Chaney
I got nothing against Chaney. Hell, anyone who threatens to kill John Calipari is all right with me. But am I the only one who thinks there should be a little bit more outrage over the fact that he sent someone in the game to break some St. Joseph's kid's arm?
A one game suspension? Shouldn't he be getting fired for this? And shouldn't it be getting a little more press? I mean, it's not as despicable as Randy Moss pretending to moon the Green Bay crowd, but February's a slow sports month...

Still Naughty After All These Years
Somewhat belatedly Slate posted a diary from three days at NAIMUN XLII. I have no idea why the conference has changed from its traditional date on President's Day weekend, or why they would have even considered it hosting it Super Bowl weekend (did anybody but total MUN geeks volunteer?), but with quotes like:
"Those short skirts some of the girls are wearing don't comport with the prescribed Western business attire."
It's good to see that some things never change.

Khaaaan!
I bought a used copy of Wrath of Khan on DVD this weekend. The classics never get old.
First of all, I have to say that I'm shocked that a picture of Bacon seems to have totally halted the crapulence for over a week. I assumed that it would have promoted greater crapulence, and perhaps even wallowing in crapulence.
Second, what's the deal for this weekend? Are people still coming into town?

Survey
I'm guessing only Will has actually received an invitation to participate in the Georgetown Sports Information Department's survey that is making the rounds, so I thought I'd post it for everyone else that feels like having a say.
Also, since the survey specifically comments on both the cheerleaders and the dance team, I feel quite justified by adding the following:

Eddy?
Hey Eddy, if you are really reading the blog, I'm having a party this friday.... that's if you still live in New York. I would have invited you, but I have no idea what your email is. And I thought you might be dead. Anyone else who wants to show up as well, I'll send you the details.
Speaking of Senior Ted, Bill, I was chatting with Marty (she who likes to party) last weekend. I think you'll be satisfied to know that she still hates your guts.

Senior Ted's Version of Settling Down
I sent an email to Ted a week or so back, and heard back from him yesterday. As usual, his response has me wondering why my life is so lame and settled down. I sent him a reply encouraging him to stop by the blog more often, but in the meantime, here is what he's up to:
Heya Bill!
Well the grand plan of doing S America as well and
ending up in Rio for Carnival never came to be. I
decided i liked C america enough to stay there for a
while longer. I think back when i wrote that blast
email i had just started living in guatemala, which
ended up being my favorite country. I'd highly
recommend it if you have the chance. I ended up
living there for about 3 months before i headed back
down to costa rica to attend a TEFL (teach english as
a foreign language) Course. Which lasted the month of
august and was mainly about the methodology of
teaching. it was an excellent course and now i feel
very prepared to teach english in the future whenever
that might be.
After the course i would have liked to get a job
teaching english but most schools ask for at least a 6
month committment which i wasn't ready to give at the
time. So i started working as a bookie for an online
offshore sportsbook company in San Jose, CR. I
thought it'd be a bit interesting. But besides the
fact that i was working with a bunch of New Jersians
such as Vinnie, Ralphie, Lou, and Large Marge that the
company had brought down, the work was boring and
tedious, just answering phones all day opening new
accounts or taking wagers. So after a few weeks i
quite and head north again into Nicaraguan.
I picked up a job bartending at a popular backpackers
hostel in a colonial town of nicaragua. It was a
pretty good job and was always meeting travelers with
interesting tales. I started dating one of my
customers, an english gal who was volunteering as a
teacher in town. After my two month stint bartending
i ran back down to costa rica to show my dad around
for a week and then quickly returned to nicaragua to
meet back up with Bridget.
we traveled around c america and mexico a bit. As
both of our trips were coming to end, we talked things
over and she invited me to come back to london with
her. So here i am, been here since mid-December.
Everythings been going fine so far, things are a
little undecided though, not really sure if this is
just a trip or a move, we'll see.
Well that's a quick update on what i've been up to
lately. Hope you and Laura are doing well. What's
your take on the Hoyas this year. They're looking
better than i expected. if they could just get
another win over a ranked opponent and then finish off
the rest of the weak teams on the schedule they might
just make the tourney, we'll see. take care Bill,

Hoyas Road Report
So I made it up to Bean-town to catch the debacle that was the Georgetown-BC game. I gotta say, Conte Forum is a nice little arena. Wish we had one of those.
BC is a legit team. They play better defense than any team we've played so far this year, including Illinois (although in fairness to Illinois, they did kind of sleepwalk through that game and are probably capable of turning it up several notches). Offensively they're not spectacular, but they hit big shots when they need to. I still think Syracuse is the class of the big east, but BC is right behind them.
So I'm not too down about the loss, notwithstanding the pitiful offensive display we put up in the first half. Hopefully we rebound against Seton Hall.

And you thought the Dolphin was angry...
New Arizona logo:
Some great quotes from the article on ESPN.com
Coach Dennis Green: "As they say, it's not the size of the bird in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the bird. The cardinal is a small bird, but it can be a very aggressive bird. That's the idea."
QB Josh McCown: "The only birds I know about are the duck and the dove and the quail, birds that you shoot. You're not really supposed to shoot cardinals. I don't know if I'd shoot this bird. It looks pretty mean. This bird might pull a gun out and shoot right back at you."

Disbelief
So I was sitting at home, listening to the Gtown game via the internet today when it struck me that the bar a couple blocks over might have ESPN Gameplan. I called them up, and indeed they did, so I walked over to catch the second half. What I saw practically had me in tears of joy. Movement on every possession, good passing, smart shots, intense defense -- this was not the Georgetown I knew. I've been listening to games all season, but this was the first time I've seen it in person. Thank God the Eshrick era is over. The bar had two for one drinks, so now I'm slightly drunk, and totally in disbelief. Hoya Saxa.

Forty-Five...
Don't know if anyone would have bothered to watch the SU-Rutgers game, but the legacy of #45 is alive and well at Rutgers, with a spectacularly dorky looking freshman named Dan Waterstradt.
Sadly, I couldn't find an action shot of ol' Dan.
But I'm pretty sure he sucks.

Potential Excuses and Markstrat
Alan, so I know traffic in LA sucks these days, but I'm quite certain nothing like this was blocking the roads to Manhattan Beach, so why the no show over New Years?
So, I think this might be a stupid question as I believe we were in the same marketing class, but did you ever play the MarkStrat game in undergrad? If so are there any secrets to it? I never remember doing it, but clearly recall there were sections that did. Just trying to get out of doing hard work whenever I can.

Although I'm guessing most of you are not regular Leno watchers, you may want to tune in tonight. I had front row seats and shake his hand before the monologue. I have to imagine at least the back of my head is on national TV.

Does ESPN.com Have Editors?
I'm not usually one to nit-pick on sports columnists, since it's kind of like shooting fish in a barrel, but this one by Andy Katz is particularly bad.
I didn't realize that Georgetown flew all the way to South Carolina the day after the Long Beach State game to beat Clemson. That makes the win doubly impressive.
I also liked his reference to Joe Lunardi as Professor of "Brackology", his exhortation to UAB, DePaul, Memphis to "proof" their merit in C-USA play, and this doozy: "Santa Clara: Has two quality wins over North Carolina in Oakland and Stanford but has lost too many games since like to Central Connecticut and Yale."
And then there's the fact that 10 of the 11 teams in the ACC are on the "bubble."
I was touched that Illinois' win over the Hoyas counted as "good," although to be honest, if I wasn't a G-town fan, I'd probably cite that as further proof of Katz's incompetence.

Round Two
I must confess, I didn't expect the Jets-Chargers tilt in week two to be a playoff preview, or the Jet's only quality win of the year. But here we are.
Alan, care to go double or nothing on our earlier wager? This time, I want some points.
