The Hoyas and Other Musings

Playing UConn really brings home how much the team has overacheived this year. We've got two players -- Green and Bowman -- that would get into the rotation there, and I don't think either would start.

For all the gnashing of teeth that is accompanying our late-season swoon, given the performance of the other bubble teams, I think we still sneak in with a win over Providence, barring a lot of upset winners in the conference tournaments. And I'm cautiously optimistic about the Providence game too -- they are terrible defensively and not especially explosive offensively...so we should be able to keep pace with them. I still have confidence in our ability to pull out the close ones...our main problem is we can't overcome large deficits because of our inability to generate points from our defense.

It's funny...the Hoyas are 5 points away from being 5-10 in conference, yet people are shocked that good teams like Nova and UConn blow us out when they play well.

On an unrelated note, I'm apparently off to Amsterdam this weekend, and will be there through March 16. Anyone ever been there? Anyone know a sports bar there that would carry the Big East tournament?

Down by 10 with 5 minutes left in the Seton Hall game, I sure didn't see us making a comeback. However that wasn't nearly as surprising as the Notre Dame upset. The domers have to be an NIT lock at this point. All we need to do now is beat UConn (and having West Virginia lose big wouldn't hurt).
