New York, New York (It's a hell of a town)

I have a new job - well, at least I will have a new job next September. I took an offer with Cleary Gottlieb, a fairly well-known international law firm here in New York. London was great, and the firm there was really nice. But staying in New York offers certain other attractions, which weigh very very heavily in it's favor. So one year from now, I begin the excitement of being a first year associate. It should be fun. The firm's offices are downtown (right next door to Century 21, if you're reading this Laura) - so I'm thinking about getting a place to live in Park Slope. All in all, I'm quite happy with the choice.

So yeah...me...New York...job...money...etc. That's really about it. Oh, and I didn't respond to the picture of Bacon, so just let me say "mmmm, Bacon"

Laura wanted me to pass along my approval of your neighborhood choice. What's your schedule this week, I'm just hangin' in queens, awaiting your call.

I'm not sure I have your phone number, but my week is fairly free - being a student and all. I'm leaving for the beach on Thursday night though. So give me a call, or email me your number.

Congratulations on officially selling your soul. Nice to see that going to an inferior law school didn't handicap you too much.

They hire you for a specific practice or is that to be determined?

Reed,
I left you a message with my number in it today at 10am. Thanks for calling me back.

On practice groups - Cleary is pretty flexible. I may start with a rotation in tax and then try corporate/M&A or securities. But I like tax, and the hours are a little more regular. We'll see. All I know is that I'm not doing litigation.

Yeah...I've heard tax is pretty livable, at least in DC. Although I'm pretty sure you have to wear a bow tie if you're a tax lawyer.
