It occurred to me that someone should really post Reed's greatest literary accomplishment to the blog...for posterity and all. So without further ado:
The Noble Single
As I consider the daily challenges one faces, I must conclude that by far the honorable is the preservation of the single. Everywhere, register jockeys and store clerks yearn to part me from my hard earned singles. "Sir, do you have anything smaller than a $20?" they cry.
No, no, a thousand times no! The $1 bill cannot be squandered on lunch, frittered away for metro fare, or fed thoughtlessly into vending machines! The single is not simply a piece of paper worth one dollar. Even the wise and warm gazes of Washington and that one-eyed pyramid seem to say, "Am I not worth more than a buck?"
Alone among currency denominations, the single has a truely exalted purpose: a higher calling and an exceptional significance. Treasure and guard the single, for it is the noblest of bills.
