The Sky is Falling!

Three games into the season, I have to say that if the Hoyas don't figure out how to attack a zone, it's going to be a long and disappointing year.

I have faith that we will get better -- we absolutely shredded SU's zone at times last year, so it's just a matter of getting the current personnel to play at that level. But it might be bumpy getting there.

This team suffers a lot for not having a swing player in the mold of bowman or owens. Green is an exceptionally skilled 4, but not to the point where he can fill that role. Egerson is a good defender and rebounder, but not polished enough offensively. I think Summers has the best chance of filling that role by the end of the season, but he's not there yet.

I do like our chances against Duke, since coach K is arrogant enough to stick with the typical Duke overpursuing man to man even though our offense will feast on it, but we need to figure something out before big east play or we will be in a lot of trouble.

Reading the comments over at HoyaSaxa has been hilarious this week. Half of the fanbase is now convinced we're NIT bound and the other half is screaming "REMAIN CALM" Animal House style. I'm sure the reality is somewhere in between. Yes, ODU was an ugly loss, but any game where JG sits for an extended period with fouls isn't likely to be a good game for the hoyas.

I actually thought the Hartford game was more troubling than ODU, since Hartford was a team that we really should have overwhelmed physically, but couldn't pull away from until the last few minutes.

ODU seemed to have some decent talent on their squad, and hit quite a few really difficult 3s, so it's understandable that we lost that one, especially with our best player having a horrible game (even when he wasn't sitting out with the fouls, green did nothing worthwhile other than needling their Lithuanian into a technical foul for taunting, which was one of the more improbable technical fouls I've ever witnessed).

I still think there's enough talent to make the NCAAs, but any sort of extended run is looking pretty improbable unless there are massive improvements by the end of the year.
