Even though nobody reads this blog, I couldn't let this article on Red Dawn pass without alerting Reed. Mr. Carey, have you rewatched this one recently? Has it lost anything the way it has for the Slate author?
Also, who knew they were remaking it?

A remake might have worked during the Clinton years when the right wing fringe was all spun up about black helicopters, with the UN replacing the Soviets as the bad guy.
I'm not sure how you would do it today with the U.S. as the setting.
I watched the movie recently, and I think it holds up, but only for someone who's lived through or a fan of the cold war.
